2/29/2024 0 Comments Endless space drop shipA more detailed table can be viewed on the respective Ship-pages of this wiki. Dreadnoughts often have special bonuses such as Construction effects. Most Ships give a bonus to the Tonnage cost of one particular type of Module (like shields) or a group of Modules (like Support modules). On basic Dreadnought that means 80 space, or about 10 weapons less for each module.Įvery faction also gets unique Ship bonuses (and Maluses). This makes some modules non-attractive, e.g. Many support modules now weight in percentage of the ship tonnage. In Disharmony there are many changes to ship design. Ship Specifications in Disharmony by Faction All ships have a capacity which limits what they can fit. Support modules have a variety of functions, like increased weapon damage, repairing, armour increases, or engine bonuses. Defences mitigate damage taken in by interfering with weapon projectiles. There are three main types - weapons, defense modules, and support modules. The Ship Classes in size order are as follows:Įach faction has their own unique cosmetics for each ship class.Īll ships can equip certain parts or modules to give them capabilities. Transports and Corvettes are unlocked at the beginning of the game, whereas the other Ship Classes are unlocked through the Exploration & Expansion (bottom) Branch of the Technology Tree. Each Class has a reduction in the tonnage of certain modules, making them slightly more or less suited to different roles. Logistical properties include command points, which affect the amount of ships in a fleet, and tonnage , which affects the amount of modules that can be loaded onto it.Įach Faction in Endless Space has 6 Ship Classes, mainly increasing in capacity, cost, and cost. When a ship's is reduced to zero in combat, it explodes. Stats that directly affect its combat performance are: health, move, military power , and siege power. 4 Ship Specifications in Disharmony by FactionĪ ship's stats determine its properties.Overriding the normal pathing algorithm like this is useful for surprise attacks, avoiding enemy chokepoints, protecting vulnerable ships (NOTHING can harm a fleet while traveling), and several other shenanigans. *Very useful, topical hint* While waypoints don't exist in ES2 as such, you can force a ship to travel directly from point A to point B - assuming you have off-starlane travel, that is ^^' - by holding down the Control key while right-clicking. Remember, however, that since ships gain experience, upgrading instead of dismantling is often a better idea. For that, you'll want the little "skull" icon =). If you can see the destination system, however, you can simply right-click that system.īy the way, "Disband" merely sends all selected ships/fleets to the hangar at a given location as individual ships, removing all fleet associations, it does not actually dismantle units. Next probable sticking point: If a given hyperlane is too long for you to be able to detect a system on the other side, a likely occurrence at the start of the game, right-click the hyperlane itself to travel along it. Shift-click and Control-click operate exactly as you might expect ("select all up to this point, from the last click" and "toggle this item", respectively). All highlighted ships (up to your max fleet cap at that time) will be sent into orbit at that system. Make sure the ship is highlighted in the right-hand pane (click it a few times to see the difference), then click the little "Ship" in the bar above it (looks a lot like an arrow pointing up at a diagonal, as well).

2/29/2024 0 Comments Us submarine classes wikipediaGeorge Washington was redesigned and rebuilt early in construction from a Skipjack-class fast attack submarine, USS Scorpion, with a 130 ft (40 m) missile compartment welded into the middle. "Red" Raborn, appointed by Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Arleigh Burke. ) The Polaris missile and the first US SSBNs were developed by a Special Project office under Rear Admiral W. (The United States Navy's hull classification symbols for nuclear ballistic missile submarines are SSBN – the SS denotes submarine, the B denotes ballistic missile, and the N denotes that the submarine is nuclear powered. The world's first operational nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine was USS George Washington (SSBN-598) with 16 Polaris A-1 missiles, which entered service in December 1959 and conducted the first SSBN deterrent patrol November 1960 – January 1961. SSBN Deterrent Patrol insignia, in silver and gold, awarded by the US Navy to sailors who completed at least one SSBN patrol. The initial R-13 (SS-N-4) ballistic missiles could only be launched with the submarine on the surface and the missile raised to the top of the launch tube, but were followed by R-21 (SS-N-5) missiles beginning in 1963, which were launched with the submarine submerged. They were followed by a series of 23 specifically designed Project 629 (Golf class) boats, completed 1958–1962, with three vertical launch tubes incorporated in the sail/fin of each submarine. įive additional Project V611 and AV611 (Zulu V class) boats became the world's first operational ballistic submarines with two R-11FM missiles each, entering service in 1956–57. This submarine launched the world's first SLBM, an R-11FM (SS-N-1 Scud-A, naval modification of SS-1 Scud) on 16 September 1955. The first nation to field ballistic missile submarines was the Soviet Union, whose first experimental vessel was a converted Project 611 (Zulu IV class) diesel-powered submarine equipped with a single ballistic missile launch tube in its sail. The commander of the Army Experimental Station, Walter Dornberger, described the project as "not unpromising". Three containers were already under construction at that time. Prototypes were already being tested on the Baltic coast before the project had to be abandoned in 1945 with the evacuation of Peenemünde. Off England, the container would have been brought to the surface and the missiles fired. Each submarine was to tow up to three of these 36-meter containers, manned by ten soldiers, through the North Sea. Toward the end of the war, a V2 version was developed at the Peenemünde Army Research Station to be towed in a launch container behind a submarine. ĭuring World War II, German researchers developed the A4 (V2), the first ballistic missile. Imperial Japanese Navy I-400-class submarines are considered the strategic predecessors to today's ballistic submarines, especially to the Regulus missile program, which began about a decade after World War II. Although these forces served until 1964 and (on the Soviet side) were augmented by the nuclear-powered Project 659 (Echo I class) cruise-missile submarines, they were rapidly eclipsed by SLBMs carried by nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines beginning in 1960. The first sea-based missile deterrent forces were a small number of conventionally powered cruise missile submarines and surface ships fielded by the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1950s, deploying the Regulus I missile and the Soviet P-5 Pyatyorka (also known by its NATO reporting name SS-N-3 Shaddock), both land attack cruise missiles that could be launched from surfaced submarines. Smaller numbers are in service with France, the United Kingdom, China and India North Korea is also suspected to have an experimental submarine that is diesel-electric powered. The deployment of ballistic missile submarines is dominated by the United States and Russia (following the collapse of the Soviet Union). They can fire missiles thousands of kilometers from their targets, and acoustic quieting makes them difficult to detect (see acoustic signature), thus making them a survivable deterrent in the event of a first strike and a key element of the mutual assured destruction policy of nuclear deterrence. These submarines became a major weapon system in the Cold War because of their nuclear deterrence capability. George Washington was the first operational nuclear-powered multi-missile strategic deterrence asset fielded by any navy.Ī ballistic missile submarine is a submarine capable of deploying submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) with nuclear warheads. That would certainly be intriguing. “We’ll see that the Mystic Leap is just one manifestation of those powers,” teased Redding. Interestingly, this may not be the only power that Todd showcases. In the same way that he’s tried to reinvent himself from anti-hero to hero while retaining his strengths, he discovers he can channel these mystic talents in ways he finds familiar: Through his physicality in how he moves, but also in how he fights and even how he uses his weapons.” “We really liked the idea that as Jason starts to confront the trauma of dying and being brought back, he begins to be able to tap into some lost abilities. Nightwing’s glider, the Flying Trapeze, was inspired by older issues of the hero’s comic book series that featured “aerialist moves with jet-powered gliders.”īefore you scream “ Fortnite rip-off”, it also has some connections to the deceased Batman’s high-tech tools in-game. However, in comparison, Nightwing’s glider and Red Hood’s bouncing in the skies received many more questions. Gotham Knights came out a week ago and I’ve found it. Gotham Knights received several new details earlier this month, from gameplay of Nightwing and Red Hood to the cancellation of previous-gen versions. So much for Han Solo? "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" And while scientists are working on developing less toxic cryoprotectants, they’re not quite there yet. Best explains that part of the problem is that cryoprotectants are too toxic to use in sufficient quantities to fully protect human tissue. Even if human tissue is successfully vitrified without any crystals forming, crystals almost always form during warming. At that point, a patient could be reanimated and healed.Īs far as reanimating a cryopreserved human, well, the hope is that scientists will find a way to do that, too, as there is currently no way to safely warm human tissue back up. The hope is that science will advance to the point that eventually humans will find a cure for whatever ailment killed the person, whether it’s cancer, congenital illnesses, or traumatic injuries. There’s some talk of doing it to a living person, but it’s not reversible by current technology.” Typically, a person is cryogenically preserved immediately after death. “They have to be legally dead, as far as cryonics is concerned. “This process isn’t currently applied to living people,” says Best. As such, it was fortunate that Han Solo survived freezing in the first place.ĭarth Vader, who experienced carbonite freezing in his younger years, probably knew it was safe, but the fact remains that it definitely wasn’t designed for living beings. This highly reactive substance, used to power starship blasters, needed to be stabilized for transport but didn’t share humanoids’ unique biological needs. Lando Calrissian’s mining facility was set up to process tibanna gas and encase it in blocks of carbonite so it could be shipped safely. Here’s the thing, though: The carbon freezing chamber in Cloud City didn’t utilize any sort of cryoprotectants because, unlike in other cinematic depictions of cryogenic sleep, it wasn’t made to preserve humans. Cryonics companies avoid freezing by replacing a patient’s blood with a cryoprotectant, a liquid that will become viscous as it cools but won’t form crystals that could damage the tender cells and tissues of the human body. To put it crudely, think of freezer burn but inside of you. This process of vitrification is key to cryonics, allowing the human body to cool without experiencing the cell damage that can accompany crystallization. “The water in their body is actually replaced with a vitrification solution to prevent ice formation so that the tissues harden like glass rather than freeze.” “The patient is cooled down, and their blood is replaced,” he explains. In fact, Best doesn’t even like to use the word “freeze” to describe cryonics. Unlike carbonite freezing, though, cryopreservation is a gradual process, involving some very specific precautions meant to help protect the sensitive tissues of the human body against the harm that can occur during freezing. Much like carbonite freezing, cryopreservation involves cooling a body from the outside. “That sounds very similar to what is actually being done in practice by cryonics organizations,” Best, the former president and CEO of the Cryonics Institute, tells Inverse. He hasn’t seen Empire, but he says carbonite freezing seems similar in principle to cryonic preservation, in which human bodies are preserved at extremely low temperatures. And while the feelings we feel during that famous scene are real, carbonite freezing is (currently) not.īut what if it were? Could our hero survive the freezing process? And if so, could he be successfully thawed? We spoke to cryonics expert Ben Best to find out. The carbonite chamber fills with clouds of thick, white vapor as Han Solo, his face scrunched up in anxious anticipation, disappears in the carbonite gas. In one of the most iconically frustrating scenes in all of modern cinema, Han Solo gets frozen in carbonite at the end of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. 2/29/2024 0 Comments Extra long drill bits manufacturerGühring has also expanded its range of indexable inserts for machining C-steels. The high point angle in the outer area of the indexable inserts guarantees minimised burr formation. The point geometry of these indexable inserts ensures optimum centring properties and thus compensates for the unstable machining conditions. Gühring offers interchangeable inserts that are specially designed for processing steel beams. This places particularly high demands on the drilling tools. The clamping conditions on these machines are usually unstable. Steel beams are usually prepared for assembly on special drilling/sawing machines. This grinding is used for thin-walled workpieces, sheets and soft materials. This geometry offers excellent centring properties and an accurate bore with low burr formation. With form E, a so-called centring point is ground. This grinding is mainly used in metal processing for grey cast iron, malleable iron and forgings. This makes the tool less sensitive to shocks and increases its tool life. It removes the cutting corner, creating two new, less sharp cutting corners. Form D is a combination of form A and an additional point angle, which is usually 90°. This means that the split point grinding can be used to create more precise hole diameters and a perfect round hole. This ensures excellent centring properties and lower feed forces. In this type of grinding, two surfaces are ground to each other so that they cross in the area of the transverse cutting edge. Chip packages form on the corrected surface, which are broken and transported away via the flutes.įorm C corresponds to split point grinding. This increases resistance to chips when drilling into solid material. The positive rake angle is corrected and the cutting wedge is ground “blunt”. It is a combination of form A and a main cutting edge correction. This means that the transverse cutting edge is reduced at defined angles in additional operation with a grinding disc.įorm B is suitable for long-chipping materials such as structural steel and high-strength steel. With form A, the transverse cutting edge is sharpened to reduce the axial forces. THX claims that this technology (unlike standard negative feedback topologies) keeps the amplifier very stable even at very high ultra-sonic frequencies so the highs do not sound hard or edgy as they can and do in many other amplifier designs. Because of this technology operating bias current can be kept low while still providing excellent sound quality, greater efficiency and ultimately results in far less heat that needs to be dissipated out of the amp and into the room. The AHB2 employs some global and some local negative feedback to keep the distortion extremely low but perhaps more importantly the amplifier uses THX’s Feed-Forward Technology that applies a different signal to the amplifiers output in the crucial crossover regions I mentioned above. This new AAA™ technology takes a novel approach to virtually eliminating noise and distortion from the amplifier especially in the critical areas where the input signal passes through the zero-voltage point as it swings from positive to negative voltage (crossover distortion) and again at the juncture where the amplifier transitions from Class AB operation to Class H. THX has patented this Achromatic Audio Amplifier technology (AAA™) and applied it in Benchmark’s AHB2 amplifier in a collaborative effort. It uses bi-polar output devices to insure low noise performance and has ultra-wide bandwidth extending from 0.1Hz to beyond 200kHz. The AHB2 amplifier is essentially a Class AB amplifier that moves into Class H operation engaging extra voltage rails when high power is demanded. Burdick will be missed but not forgotten. Unfortunately Burdick passed away in September of 2013 and the AHB2 amplifier is dedicated to the honor of his memory. Burdick was one of the leading innovators in the Pro-Audio Industry and had a life-long passion for advancing the quality of audio reproduction. I thought Jot had excellent bass response with HE-6 but AHB-2 gives it a little extra weight, yet has all the air and clarity you would expect.īest part about the AHB-2 is that it doesn't even get warm, like, at all. HE-6 though, is definitely more muscular out of the AHB-2. With the dynamics it isn't as warm and smooth, as it's meant to be as transparent as possible. It has possibly better width but slightly less depth than ZD. I recently compared it to my Zana Deux using HD800 and HD650, which I feel present stage width and depth more accurately than planars and the AHB-2 doesn't give up much of anything in terms of staging. I've spent a lot of time with the AHB-2, almost 6 hours every day for the last week and a half. 11.04" W x 3.88" H x 9.34 " D - Including feet and binding posts.29 A peak, per channel, both channels driven. 190 Watts per channel into 4 Ohms, both channels driven.
